2015-08-16 Lee NathansYesterday on the way to Coney Island we toured Brooklyn again to see where I was born, some old haunts, neighborhoods, Clarkson Ave. where I was brought up. Of course my favorite Chinese restaurant (711) is gone along with Ebingers, Bickfords, the bar where I had "Boilermakers at age 14, Garfields on Flatbush & Church (great hangout for teens on a Fri. nite), On the way to Sheepshead Bay where I used to fish off of the pier (a sailor borrowed the rod and accidentally threw it into the bay) we passed James Madison H.S. For some reason I got very nostalgic when I thought of the time while pitching for Stuyviesant Joe Bono, hit a home run off of me because I was flirting with his girlfriend in the stands. (I forgot to include that story in my book), then on to Coney via Brighton Beach where I used to play Handball with Sid Gordon, the ballplayer. (and that is IN the book!
